Memoir
Privacy Policy
Effective May 31, 2026 · Last updated August 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Memoir ("Memoir," "we," "us") collects and handles your information when you visit this website, create an account, purchase a plan, or use the Memoir service to record and keep your family's stories. By using the site or the service, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you set up a Memoir, purchase a plan, or contact us, we collect your name, email address, and the details you provide to set up the memoir. Payments are handled by our payment provider (Stripe) — we receive confirmation of your purchase and billing details such as your name and email, but not your full card number.
- Information collected automatically. We may collect basic technical and usage data such as your browser type, device, and pages viewed, using cookies or similar technologies.
Information you create with the service. When you use Memoir to record a memoir, we collect the audio recordings, transcripts, and any photographs or details you choose to provide, so we can produce your finished memoir and keep it available to you and the family members you share it with.
Your stories and recordings
The recordings, transcripts, photos, and finished memoirs you create with Memoir belong to your family. Our promises:
- Private to your family. They are visible only to you and the people you choose to share them with. They are never made public.
- Never published. We do not post, display, or distribute your stories anywhere.
- Never sold. We do not sell your recordings, transcripts, or personal information to anyone, ever.
- Never used to train AI models. Memoir does not use your recordings, transcripts, or stories to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models — not now, not ever.
- Yours to delete. You can ask us to delete your recordings and memoirs at any time, and we will.
To create your memoir, your content is handled by a small set of trusted service providers acting only on our behalf — for example, secure cloud storage, speech-to-text transcription, and voice and audio production. They may use it only to provide these services to you, never for their own purposes.
How we use your information
- To provide the service — set up your memoir, process your purchase, and record, produce, and host your finished memoir.
- To contact you about your account, your order, and important product updates.
- To respond to your questions or requests.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site and service.
You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message or by emailing us.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the site and deliver the service (for example, payment, email delivery, hosting, transcription, and audio-production providers), who are bound to use it only on our behalf, and when required by law or to protect our rights.
Data retention
We keep your account and contact information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, until you ask us to delete it. We keep your recordings, transcripts, and finished memoirs so your family can access them, until you ask us to delete them. In each case we remove the information within a reasonable period after your request, unless we are required to retain it.
Your choices and rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may unsubscribe from our emails at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights:
- EEA / UK residents. Rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
- California residents. Rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including to know, delete, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell or share it as those terms are defined).
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@memoir.audio.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
International users
We operate from the United States, and your information may be processed there. By using the site you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in that location.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
